The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
I love 80's music. Always have. Always will. Any kind of 80's music. Pop, r&b, rock. Its like the greatest era of music ever. Well, C was singing a song while she was coloring this morning. When I realized what song it was - I was so proud. I grabbed the camera and we had a little impromptu concert. No, she doesn't really know the words, but the fact that she knows the tune is good enough for me. Rock on Sister! 80's Forever!

Lets talk about the Marshmallow ice cream
Wow. Cold Stone has really hit the nail on the head with this one. J and I went there a few nights ago and to our utter enjoyment, Cold Stone has come out with a couple new flavors. Nutter Butter (no thank you) and marshmallow. I picked the marshmallow ice cream, added a brownie, graham cracker pie crust crumbs, and a little bit of caramel sauce. Unbelievable. Its like the best thing I've eaten in a long, long time. If you haven't visited your local Cold Stone in a while, I highly suggest you do so in the very near future.

Not an Ear Infection Afterall . . . .
Well, after starting the antibiotics, F just got worse. High fever, hives all over his body, and a bunch of other not great symptoms. I took him back to his regular pediatrician on Saturday (the 1st appt. was with a doc at the insta-care place). Turns out - F doesn't have an ear infection. His doc said that his ears looked a tad red, but that could be from F's crying - he was NOT happy about having the doc look in his ears. The doc thinks F has a "virus." However, the doc also thinks that F is allergic to penicillin. That would explain the fever that came after he started the meds, his hives and his other symptoms. So, we are not going to give him any type of penicillin until he is much older and we can watch for other allergic reaction signs. J has a few people in his immediate family that are allergic to penicillin, so if F turned out to be allergic as well, it wouldn't be too hard to believe.
Anyway, F is doing much, much better and actually laughed at his sister earlier today. He slept from 7:30pm - 5:45am and has taken 2 really good naps today. Thats about as much as I can hope for. The hives have gone down and I think we're on the road to recovery. Here's to hoping its a short one . . . .

Susie MaHara, Ratta Tats & the Sick One . . . . . .
The last 24 hours have been very interesting. F has been very grumpy and really whiney the last 2 days, so I decided to take him to the doc. Diagnosis? Ear infection! They gave me some antibiotics, the correct dosage amounts for tylenol and motrin, and then sent me on my merry way. C didn't get sick until she was about 15 months old, so this sick baby stuff is new to me. And I have to say - it sucks. F woke up last night with a high fever and those of you who know me personally, know that I would rather deal with any other kind of sickness than fevers. I hate them. They scare me. Anyway, F woke up with a fever last night, so we got to have a sleepover together. There is NOTHING restful about sleeping with an 8 month old. I think he is feeling a tad bit better today. The motrin seems to be helping a ton. I coaxed a little smile out of him after he ate lunch:
While F was taking his first nap, C informed me that she really wanted to go to a parade again. She told me how much she liked the candy, but she "hated ratta tats." ??????
Me: You hate what?
C: Ratta Tats. They are gross
Me: What is a Ratta Tat?
C: You know, those things you get at parades. They are chewy, but gross . . . .
Me: Do you mean Laffy Taffy's? (I really had to think hard to remember what treats were in her after-the-parade treat bag)
C: Yeah, Laffy Taffy's, or you can call 'em Ratta Tats.
Me: oh, okay.
After F woke up from his morning nap, I needed to run to the store to buy more motrin. I always seem to run out at the worst possible time. Anyway, C was still in her pj's. I told her to run upstairs and put some clothes on. She took FOREVER. I finally threatened to put her in a time out if she didn't come down now. I was waiting for her in the kitchen. About 30 seonds later, here comes C into the kitchen, yelling something totally incoherent. This is how she was dressed:
Me: Holy Smokes C. What are you wearing?
C: I'm not C anymore! I'm Susie MaHara!
Me: Susie MaHara???
C: Yeah! You have to call me Susie MaHara!
I told Susie MaHara to put some pants on, and then I took both Susie MaHara and F to the store. Its been almost 2 hours since I was introduced to Susie MaHara, and she is still with me. C is not around anymore . . . . . . . . I have no idea where C came up with Susie MaHara, or why Susie wears socks on her hands or underwear on her head. I'm still trying to figure it out.

First Day of School - Update

C started preschool today. I cannot believe how big she is. She has grown up so fast! It seems like yesterday that she was taking her first steps. I would give anything just to have one more day with her as a baby. Just so I could cuddle with her. She's too busy to cuddle for very long these days. She was pretty excited this morning. She couldn't wait to get out the door.

C's preschool has dance built right into the curriculum. She'll be doing ballet, tap & tumbling. She's actually supposed to go to preschool in her dance clothes. She dances for the fist hour, and then changes into her school clothes. I had to get a pic of both outfits!

I will post again this afternoon with her thoughts about her first day of school.
I picked C up at noon and she was happy to see me. She looked so darn cute running to the car with her little backpack bouncing around. Once I got her in the car, she proudly displayed her first day artwork. She colored a picture of a bus and was supposed to cut out the wheels and glue them to the appropriate place on the bus. However, she wanted to glue the wheels to the front of the bus, but then decided she didn't like them and peeled them off and threw the wheels in the garbage can. After the great wheel debacle, she grabbed some scissors and cut off the printed directions on the top of the page because she "didn't want so many words by her bus." I told her I thought that was a good idea and I didn't like buses with a lot of words either. She is my buddy.
We ate lunch when we got home and I told her she could watch Sesame Street. She was asleep in under 10 minutes. Preschool wore her out! And no, that isn't a beauty mark on her face, its part of her un-eaten cookie that I had to pry out of her sweaty little hand after she fell asleep on the couch.

Tag! I'm "it."
Here goes nothing:
My Joys:
1. My family. The older I get, the more I realize just how important family is. I love spending time with J and my kids - and I love spending time with my siblings and extended family.
2. Reading. I always have to have a book to read. If I don't - it ruins my day. And NO mystery-detective books. I hate them.
3. Having a clean house.
My Fears:
1. Being trapped underwater in a submarine with no hope of being able to get to the surface and knowing that I'm going to die, just not knowing when. Same thing with being trapped on a spaceship.
2. Kids being hurt/sick/diseased/drowning/disappearing...long list
3. Dying. I hate thinking about this.
My Current Obsessions:
1. Paying off our credit card and saving every single penny we can.
2. Learning how to navigate photoshop. I bought Photoshop CS3 for Dummies, but it isn't helping . . . . .ouch.
3. Counting down the hours until C goes to preschool.
Surprising Facts:
1. I like bugs and snakes and lizards. If I could get away with having a boa constrictor as a pet, I would.
2. I wouldn't have a problem living in a nudist colony.
3. I am TERRIFIED of moths/butterflies.
