Button, Button - Who's Got the Button?

So, about all that fun stuff we've been doing lately . . . . . . . .

We're boring & lame and we haven't done anything blog-worthy. J hasn't even embarrassed me, the family or himself for quite some time. Its been somewhat refreshing, but also really boring. Well actually, he did impersonate a talking donkey in our Gospel Doctrine class last Sunday. Fun times.

F has been talking more and more. He's starting to put his words together and yesterday he successfully communicated that he wanted me to hold his cars while we walked downstairs. He sings "row, row, row your boat" and "you are my sunshine."

C acts like she's 16. I'm serious. She's very mischievous and manipulating. When I tell her something that she doesn't want to hear (like "you have to eat 5 more bites of those carrots!") she'll try to negotiate. When she gets put into a TIME OUT (an occurrence that seems to be more and more frequent) she'll scream at F to save her.

Spring is purposely trying to put me in a bad mood. You can't be all happy, warm & sunny and then the next day snow. I can't deal.

My birthday is coming up. I have my eye on this or this. The more I read the reviews and explore the e-libraries, the more I'm sold. Any input?

That about does it for us. I need something exciting to happen. But maybe I shouldn't wish for that because every time I do, I get waaaaay more than I bargained for.

Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!

Last Halloween, my mom gave me a Ghost Finder Camera. Click on the link for an explanation of how it works. I took a few pictures with it on Halloween, but then stashed it away above the fridge and forgot about it. I found it earlier this week. I only had a few pictures left, so I snapped a few of the kids and then dropped it off at Costco to be developed. The ones I took on Halloween turned out okay, but the ones I took this week - wow. As soon as I saw them I started laughing and I literally had to hide the envelope of pictures from C so she wouldn't see them. One look at these pictures - and she wouldn't sleep for 2 months.

Mononucleousis Misdiagnosis

Say that 10 times fast.

F's pediatrician refuses to believe that he has mono (it was the instacare dr that first told us). We went on Tuesday for his 2 year well check (yeah, I know - I'm late). Our dr. has his reasons for not believing:

(1) said the blood spot test was unreliable for a child his age
(2) said he has never in his career seen or heard of a 2 year old with mono
(3) after seeing him run around the exam room and his office chasing his sister - he said there is no way he had mono. Doc said he would have a hard time getting off the couch if he had it, let alone chase his sister.

So, what do we do with this information? NOTHING. Said it wasn't worth doing more blood tests since he was obviously feeling better. If, later in life - like in high school/college, we think F has mono, we can get his blood tested then - and we'll be able to know if he's had it before.

His ear infection is clearing up. He's a lot nicer these days. He's back to taking 2.5 hour naps and sleeping for about 12 hours every night.

In other news, F weighs 28 lbs and is 35 inches tall. 50% for both. C, on the other hand weighs 36 lbs (only 8 lbs more than her brother, 3 years younger) and is 44 inches tall. 15% for weight and 75% for height.

F loves cars. Loves them. Every night, he has to pick a few cars to take to bed with him. I took this picture last night. He lined up his cars all by himself. I love him.

Easter 2010

Easter. You just never know what its going to bring. This year, it brought snow & mono. Yes.

After a very loooooooong week, 3 different dr. visits, and plenty of tantrums, F was finally diagnosed with Mono. It started early last week. He kept complaining about his back hurting. And then his knees hurting. And then his legs hurting. He has sounded a bit congested, but nothing too serious. I took him Thursday afternoon because he wouldn't stop complaining about his back. The dr. looked him over, didn't see anything suspicious, but told me to call him Friday. The symptoms persisted, so I ended up going back to the dr. Friday afternoon. We had a whole list of tests done. Getting your toddler's blood drawn will go down in history as the worst possible thing ever. EVER.

Saturday afternoon F developed a fever, very high, very fast. I took him to the insta-care place by our house. More tests. The doc told me F's ears were infected. But, she also noticed that his lymph nodes were very swollen - like sticking up out of the back of his neck, swollen. So, she did a blood test for Mono. It came back POSITIVE.

I would've been LESS shocked, had the dr. told me F was growing horns. Mono? Are you serious? How does a 2 year old catch mono? I don't even know anyone with Mono. But regardless of the mystery that surrounds it, he has it. Mono explains his body aches, his sudden high fever, and his general crummy disposition. My poor little buddy. And since the incubation period can be anywhere from 30 to 50 days - who knows where he picked it up!

So anyway, this Easter wasn't one of most fun I can recall, but we managed. C got spoiled. F got spoiled. J got spoiled.
