When we were first married, J worked for a collections company. Sometimes, they had the opportunity to buy items that were repossesed. On one such occassion, a local video store went out of business, and J's work got all the videos. J, and his fellow coworkers, picked out the movies they wanted to keep.
Those that know us personally, know that we love to watch scary movies. So, when J saw an old school copy of "Tales from the Darkside ~ The Movie" he had to get it. I don't think we've ever even watched this. Its just been hanging out in our entertainment center cupboard. We have all of C's movies grouped together where she can reach them easily. We have all of our movies in the bottom cupboard that has a child-proof lock thing on it. Anyway, i unlocked the "mom & dad" movie cupboard to grab C's Vmotion game thing. I forgot to lock it back up.
Fast foward about 45 minutes. I had just put F down for his nap and I was walking back downstairs. C was sitting on the living room floor, holding our copy of Tales from the Darkside. She had a very concerned look on her face. She brought me the movie and said, "Mom, I need you to tell me the stories about all the pictures on this video." I grabbed the movie and looked at said pictures:
Wow. I didn't even know where to begin to explain these pictures. I finally just told her that it was funny halloween show. She didn't buy it. She asked me why "that boy was stuck in a cage." I told her that he was just goofing around and playing "hide & sneak." She pointed the mummy creature in the top right picture and said to me, "mom, this guy ISN'T funny." as in - don't play me like that, sucker. i know these pictures should be giving me nightmares for the next 13 years and don't try to tell me different.
So, I did want any self-preserving parent would do. I said "Oh hey look! I think the mailman is here, lets go get the mail!!!" While C was running for her shoes, I tucked the evil video way up on top of the fridge. Disaster averted . . . . maybe.
